Scam Alert: "Locked EBT Card" Text Messages!
The Iowa Attorney General and the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) are warning Iowans about a scam involving fraudulent text messages that claim your EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) card has been “locked.”
These messages may:
- Urge you to call a number or click a link
- Ask for your EBT card number or PIN
This is a scam that has victimized hundreds of people in our region.
Government agencies will never request your EBT information via text message or email.
If you receive a suspicious message:
- Do not respond
- Do not click any links
- Do not share your card number or PIN
- Report the scam and seek help.
