On May 24th Milestones Area Agency on Aging celebrated a Hawaiian-themed "Senior Prom" luau at our Milestones Community Cafe in the Penn Avenue Free Methodist Church in Ottumwa. This popular annual event brought together over 140 older Iowans for an evening of delicious Hawaiian food, lively music, games and a traditional hula dance presented by the YMCA. We were also honored to have the mayor of Ottumwa join in the festivities.
We owe the success of the Senior Prom luau to the incredible support of our generous community partners, sponsors, volunteers, and organizers. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the following businesses for their generous prize donations: Applebee's, AnnMarie Daily, Bubba Q's, Canteen, China Star, Classic Cuts, Country Cafe, Courtside, Domino's, Elliott Oil, Fareway, Godfrey's, Good Samaritan Society, Grahams, Gregg Young Auto, Happy Joe's, Hotel Ottumwa, Hy-Vee, Iowa State Bank, Knights of Columbus, Main St. Donuts, McDonald's, Menards, Mike's Pizza and Steak, Morgan's Corner, Natural Health and Wellness, O'Town, Pizza Hut, Pizza Ranch, Recovery Room, Riverside, Sassy Sunflower, Scooter’s, Taco John's, Tequila Grill, Tractor Supply, Uncle Buck's, and Warehouse Barbeque Company.
We are deeply grateful to Cathy Weilbrenner for her creative decorations, including vibrant trees, a mesmerizing waterfall, and table settings. Mary Glosser’s efforts in securing business donations were invaluable, and Dan Brinegar's construction skills brought the tropical paradise to life with beautiful sets. Special thanks also go to Milestones employees Christina Wolfe and Connie Murray for their creative energy, enthusiasm, and organizing efforts.
