Nutrition Services Program Manager Available in Ottumwa

The Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day delivery, planning and problem solving of Milestones Nutrition Services in an assigned area: including operation of the nutrition centers, supervision of nutrition employees, promotion of nutrition services, management of volunteers and inventory. Services include congregate and home delivered meals, nutrition education and nutrition counseling.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responsible for overall safe and efficient operation of assigned nutrition services in assigned area.
  2. Monitor compliance of policies and procedures in delivery of nutrition services.
  3. Conduct and/or oversee bi-annual evaluations of nutrition centers to assure compliance of the Older Americans Act, Iowa Food Code, Iowa Administrative Code, Iowa Division of Aging and Disability Services (ADS) reporting and service requirements.
  4. Supervise nutrition personnel in assigned area. Assist in job postings and advertising.
    • Perform new employee interviews.
    • Complete all personnel reviews.
    • Review time sheets and expense sheets.
    • Perform disciplinary action.
    • Monitor schedules for efficiency and coverage making status changes, as coordinated with the Services Director.
  5. Ability to develop community partnerships through networking, public speaking, and presentations.
  6. Overseeing volunteers are effectively recruited, trained, and supervised.
  7. Accurately and timely complete all paperwork and payroll information.
  8. Review and summarize field reports for accuracy and compliance; acting on or submitting recommendations / corrections as needed on timely basis.
  9. Assist in monitoring nutrition costs, including staff labor hours and program expenses; offering input to improve efficiency and implement recommended cost reductions.
  10. Oversee that food supplement inventory is ordered and distributed, if applicable.
  11. Monitor to assure timely home visits are made to assess/reassess consistency and accuracy for eligibility for home delivered meals.
  12. Perform home visits as needed.
  13. Identify training needs and work with Services Director to provide training.
  14. Prepare in-service and hold regular meetings for supervised staff, at least twice a year.
  15. Make regular contact with nutrition center staff. Become informed of all nutrition center activities, assist with problem solving and provide agency program information and other subjects of interest for the benefit of nutrition center participants.
  16. Provide technical assistance to assigned staff regarding food preparation, service, safety, sanitation, quality control, planning promotional events, and equipment and inventory maintenance.
  17. Participate, as coordinated with Service Director, in menu planning, certification, printing and distribution, coordination with food or menu provider(s), including resolution of food or product difficulties.
  18. Report equipment needs as well as maintenance and repair options to Service Director.
  19. Prepare purchase orders as needed.
  20. Assist Service Director in food provider bid process.
  21. Assist Service Director in writing long-term and short-term program goals and program outcomes for the Multi-Year Area Plan submitted to ADS, as requested.
  22. Meet monthly for planning and monitoring meetings with Services Director.
  23. May be required to attend state and local meetings.
  24. Represent the Nutrition Program and the Area Agency on Aging regarding the Nutrition program in assigned area; including possible development of new nutrition centers and attendance at promotional events at least once a year.
  25. Assist in Farmers Market program and other nutrition and health promotion projects, as needed.
  26. Assist in Office Management issues as directed. 
  27. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate of Arts degree in related field with 6 years’ experience or,
  • Bachelor’s degree in health or nutrition or related field with 4-years’ experience.
  • Must have above average computer skills with working knowledge of all Microsoft Applications including Outlook.
  • Must be a self-starter and have excellent supervisory and communication skills working well with the MAAA staff and other stakeholders.
  • Experience in food purchasing, preparation and planning for large quantities preferred.
  • Volunteer management, customer service, and public speaking experience is a plus.
  • Must be well organized, attention to detail, able to maintain accurate records and submit reports in a timely manner.
  • Must maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs. on your own or 50 lbs. with assistance.
  • Must have valid driver’s license, auto insurance, access to reliable transportation, and ability to travel as job requires.
  • Must have a current Serve Safe certification or comparable certification for a Food Protection Manager or certification must be obtained within 6 months of date of hire.

POSITION DETAILS

SCHEDULE:  Full-Time: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm

 

SALARY: Range: $50,000 to $60,000 annually D.O.E.
